1. 개요

볼보 B8RLE 섀시에 다지의 바디를 적용하여 2015년부터 2021년까지 태영모터스와 볼보트럭코리아에서 수입한 2층버스.

2. 상세


초기형	후기형

B8RLE 모델의 경우 2014년 현재 대한민국에서 유일하게 시판 중인 볼보버스의 모델로, 6x2 섀시만이 다른 B8RLE에 적용되는 운비 어비스 DD[1] 및 이 차량의 외부를 제작하는 다지[2][3]의 2층버스 바디(차체)와 함께 판매되고 있다. 가격은 4억 5천만원 정도라고 한다. 1층 13석[4], 2층 59석 배열이며 계단은 앞뒤로 두곳이 있다.

시트의 단점으로는, 대부분의 대형버스(45석) 및 경쟁차량 MAN 라이온스 2층버스의 시트와 달리, 머리를 기댈 수 없고, 등받이가 뒤로 아주 조금밖에 젖혀지지 않는다. 그리고 서스펜션이 상대적으로 단단해서 그런지, 착석 시 차체의 진동이 그대로 좌석으로 전달되어 탑승자가 쉽게 멀미를 느낄 수 있다는 점이 문제점으로 지적된다. 최대 제한속도마저도 경부고속도로의 제한속도인 110km/h에 한참 미치지 못하는 80km/h다.[5]

본 차량 도입 이후 도입된 2층버스 MAN 라이온스 더블데커는 최고속도는 90km/h로 10km/h 더 빠르며,[6] 더 안락한 승차감과 강력한 출력, 더 부드러운[7] 가죽재질의 더 크고 편안한 좌석으로 단점이 적어 환호를 받았다. 허나 MAN의 고질적인 엔진 문제로 경기도의 몇몇 운수업체는 MAN 2층버스의 운용에 어려움을 겪고 있다.[8][9] 다만 시트 문제의 경우 우리나라 버스 시장 문제이기도 한데, 멕시코 등 몇몇 나라에서처럼 운수업체에서 원하는 시트를 올릴 수 있도록 조치했다면 시트를 장착하지 않은 빈 차량으로 수입 혹은 운수업체에 인도한 후 명보기업이나 서연인테크의 시트를 올려도 되기 때문이다.

최근 출시된 지 9년이 도래하면서 초기형 차량들이 타 차종으로 대차되는 사례가 늘고 있다. 고질적인 엔진 결함으로 인해 퇴출 수순을 밟고있는 MAN 2층버스와 달리 심각한 결함은 없지만 초기형 차량은 성능이 상당히 좋지 않았으며,[10][11] 수입차 특성상 유지보수에 어려움이 있어서[12] 칼대차시키는 것으로 보인다. 단 예외적으로 김포운수는 최대한 오래 운행하려고 하는 것으로 보인다.[13]

2021년도에 전기가 동력원인 현대 일렉시티 이층버스가 출시되었고 경기도 공공버스와 대광위에서 전기 2층버스 도입을 의무화하면서 2021년을 끝으로 더 이상 수입되지 않았다.[14] 그 이후로는 현대자동차의 일렉시티 이층버스와 유니버스 프라임으로[15] 대체되고 있다.

이 모델은 볼보 B8RLE 섀시에 다지의 볼보 바디를 적용하는 바디 빌더 방식으로 생산된 2층버스이고, 후면부에 VOLVO B8R 레터링도 부착되어있어, B8R이 모델명으로 생각하는 버덕이 많다. 하지만 운비 어비스 DD 2층버스처럼 바디 빌더 방식으로 생산되어 모델명이 존재하지 않는다.[17]

B8RLE모델은 7.7리터 엔진으로 350마력, 143kgf.m의 토크를, MAN 라이온스 더블데커는 13리터 엔진으로 460마력에 235kgf.m의 토크를 낸다. 두 차량의 총중량 차이가 그리 크지 않은데 출력, 특히 토크의 차이가 매우 크기 때문에 더욱 역체감이 큰 것이다.[7] 다지사에서 제작한 B8R 2층버스 좌석 시트의 경우 고무같은 재질의 시트를 도입해 뻣뻣하게 느껴지는 편이다.[8] #[9] 그래서인지, 현대에서 만든 일렉시티 더블데커가 나온 후에는 MAN 2층버스를 일부 업체에서는 조기대차해 버렸다.[10] 승객을 고려하지 않은 설계, 출력이 떨어지는 엔진, 체급 대비 성능이 떨어지는 섀시 등이 있는데 초기형 차량들이 특히 심각했다. 다만 볼보 2층버스는 잔고장이 좀 있었을 뿐이지 고질적인 엔진 결함으로 몸살을 앓았던 MAN 2층버스와 이례적으로 노후화 속도가 매우 빠른 자일대우버스 FX116 하모니와 달리 기본적인 뼈대 자체가 아예 맛탱이가 간 수준은 아니다.[11] 2024년 6월 즈음에 남양주시에서 운행했던 15년식 1대가 폐차되었는데 해당 차량만 상태가 매우 좋지 않았으며, 같은 운수사 소속의 다른 15년식 차량은 멀쩡히 잘 운행하는 것으로 보아 해당 차량만 비정상 개체였다. 일반적인 차량들은 제작 과정에서 변수가 많아서 차량 간의 상태 편차가 있지만 고질적인 결함이 있거나, 품질이 매우 떨어지지 않는 이상 상태가 매우 나쁜 차량들은 드물게 나온다.[12] 국내에서 부품을 생산하는 버스는 수리 기간이 상대적으로 짧지만 완전한 수입산인 볼보 2층버스는 수리할 때 새시 부품은 스웨덴, 바디 부품은 대만에서 수입해야해서 수리 기간이 매우 길어진다.[13] 이 쪽은 2층버스 증차가 필요한 노선이 있으며, 더 심각한 상황에 놓인 MAN 2층버스를 더 빨리 대차시켜야해서 볼보 2층버스를 어쩔 수 없이 오래 굴리는 것에 가까운데 심지어 해당 차량들은 초기형이다.[14] 거의 매일 운행해야하는 상용차 특성상 가동률이 매우 중요한데 수입산 2층버스들은 수입산 특성상 유지보수에 어려움이 있어서 가동률이 일반 차량보다 훨씬 낮았다. 그러다가 국내에서 부품을 생산해 유지보수가 상대적으로 용이한 국내산 2층버스가 출시되었고 정부에서도 국내산 2층버스를 밀어주자 업체들이 전부 다 국내산 2층버스로 갈아탄 것이다.[15] 실제로 2024년에 남양주시에서 볼보 2층버스 2대가 1층버스로 대차되었는데 2층버스의 출고 대기 시간이 매우 길어서 수송량 감소를 각오하고 그냥 1층버스로 대차시키는 것이다.[16] 모두 휴차 중이다.[17] 주로 볼보 2층버스로 불린다.
